Although I've always had an interest in science and environmental issues, I grew up in huge cities like Hong Kong and Bangkok so I didn't discover the nature-loving, outdoorsy side of me until I came to the U.S. for college. Ecology became a great way for me to combine all my interests together, and I've done research in a variety of areas from succession in forest ecosystems to plant invasions. I'm currently studying the effects of global climate change on nitrogen cycling and ammonia-oxidizing microbial communities. I'm very interested in the relationship between microbial community structure and ecosystem functioning, and how one can improve global climate models by better understanding what's happening belowground. I'm also interested in the environmental impacts of biofuels.
